Description

In Delude et Impera, you will represent a power-hungry political organization that plans to take over three countries on the continent of Ozogranida, each being in different stages of democratic development and having their own struggles. The only weapon you have in this battle is information, and the only way to take over the countries is to gain control of their regions by wisely using proper disinformation tactics and the knowledge you have on the local context. By winning the minds and the hearts of citizens, one by one, region by region, you will eventually be able to climb to the top of the food chain. In real life, the risks that disinformation poses over the lives of people are quite grim; in Delude et Impera, this somber tone is counterbalanced by the presence of animals as inhabitants of the continent. In this sense, the game pays tribute to George Orwell’s Animal Farm.

Delude et Impera is a strategy card game meant to bring a deeper understanding of the complex phenomenon of disinformation in a political context. The player is given the interactive map of the continent, with the three countries and their subsequent regions, as well as different cards employing different tactics: propaganda, disinformation, misinformation, fake news and mal-information. The subject of the card is customizable depending on the local characteristics available by clicking on a region, and the player must be careful to match their discourse to the interests of citizens. The player must win enough voters to secure victory in the upcoming regional, and then national elections. Some of them are more susceptible to disinformation due to low political and economic satisfaction, as well as education level, which must be considered when choosing a strategy. The number of voters changes each turn depending on the dealt cards, and they ultimately influence the outcome.
